Molonglo Catchment Group wins stormwater education grant

The Molonglo Catchment Group was successful in its ACT Environment grant application for $14,825 for Canberra Stormwater Education Initiative that was put together by Matthew Dickinson on behalf of the the three ACT catchment groups.

This project seeks to address significant stormwater pollution issues affecting water quality in Canberra’s waterways. The aim of the project is to reduce the introduction of gross pollutants through a community awareness raising initiative delivered through a collaborative program by the three ACT catchment groups, Waterwatch and Frogwatch.

There will be two main target audiences of the project, firstly residents in the catchments will be targeted through displays and presentations at staged events, advertisements in local publications and other media outlets and representation to community groups. In addition, a program will be delivered to schools in the catchment offering them the opportunity to have a presentation delivered to the students. A presentation will be set up that will be located at libraries and shopping centres.

Secondly, the business community will be targeted through posters distributed to workplaces. A specific poster will be designed that highlights catchment management issues and stormwater pollution in particular. The poster will be used as an educational tool by the three catchment groups, Waterwatch and Frogwatch assist them in delivery of their core messages to the community.
